Use and maintenance of sliding bearings in agricultural machinery

    Bearings are mainly used to support shaft and on-axis parts, and to maintain the rotation accuracy of the shaft and reduce the friction and wear between the shaft and the support. It is widely used in agricultural machinery. Since agricultural machinery often works in heavy environments with heavy loads, vibrations, and impacts, the proper use and maintenance of bearings is very important. The sliding bearing has the advantages of large carrying capacity, reliable operation, impact resistance, vibration absorption, and splitting. 

    It is very suitable for high-speed heavy-duty, agricultural machinery with huge impact and vibration. Due to the wide application of sliding bearings, their failure has become a common mechanical failure in agricultural machinery operations. Master the working principle of sliding bearings, understand common fault types and causes of faults, take specific measures to eliminate faults for fault causes, and even carry out routine maintenance of sliding bearings according to the working principle of sliding bearings to prevent malfunctions, which must be achieved by mechanical maintenance personnel. 

  

1 Structure and working principle of sliding bearing The sliding bearing consists of bearing cap, bearing seat, bearing bush and connecting bolt. The bearing shell is an important part of the plain bearing and is used to directly support the journal. On the inner surface of the bearing pad, oil grooves are longitudinally, obliquely or laterally centered on the inlet port to facilitate uniform distribution of the lubricating oil over the entire journal. 

The sliding bearing works by the movement between the inner surfaces of the bearing shell, and the sliding friction generated by the movement hinders the movement of the sliding bearing. If a lubricating film is formed on the surface of the sliding bearing to separate the surface of the moving pair, the sliding friction can be greatly reduced, and the wear is avoided because the surface of the moving pair is not in direct contact. 

Therefore, the formation of the lubricating film is a basic condition for the sliding bearing to operate normally. Factors affecting the formation of the lubricating film include the lubrication method, the relative motion speed of the motion pair, the physical properties of the lubricant, and the roughness of the moving auxiliary surface. In the case of plain bearing applications, maintaining good lubrication reduces frictional power consumption and reduces wear, while also providing cooling, vibration absorption, and rust prevention.


2 Failure mode of sliding bearing In the normal use of sliding bearing, this natural damage is difficult to avoid due to the gradual wear and tear until it finally loses its working ability and ends its service life. However, if the bearing is prematurely worn or has various failures due to improper adjustment of the assembly, poor quality of the lubricating oil or poor use conditions, it is an early damage caused by man. 

Early damage not only greatly reduces the service life of the bearing, but also affects the normal operation of the agricultural machinery. According to experience, the common forms of early damage of sliding bearings are mechanical damage, bearing cavitation, fatigue pitting, bearing alloy corrosion, bearing burning, bearing outer circle and so on.


3 Reasonable use and maintenance of sliding bearings Early damage of sliding bearings is much more common than bearing burning, so it is very important to prevent early damage of sliding bearings. Proper maintenance of the sliding bearing is an effective way to reduce early damage to the bearing and a reliable guarantee for extending bearing life.

Therefore, in the routine maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery, it is necessary to start from the reasonable selection of bearing alloy materials, improve the maintenance and assembly quality of bearings, rationally select and add lubricants, and improve the working conditions of bearings. 

Once the sliding bearing has an abnormal phenomenon or signs of premature wear, it is necessary to carefully identify the cause and take corresponding measures to pay attention to the prevention of early damage to the sliding bearing.
